Brussels, 21/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - Bond issuance in euros increased positively in January 2002, the European Commission said on the occasion of the publication, on Thursday, of its latest report on euro-denominated issuance. The total of such issues was EUR 150 billion in January, i.e. almost twice the level reached one month earlier. The Commission adds, however, that the bankruptcy of Enron has caused a reduction in the demand for bonds of the inferior category. Governments have stepped up their issuance considerably in euros, unlike private issuers (companies and financial services), which seem to have been directly hit by the consequences of the Enron affair.
