Brussels, 06/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission approved the rural development programme, Leader+, in favour of Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany). The programme concerns all the rural areas of the region and a population of around 1.8 million inhabitants. Its priority objectives are to improve the economic situation, living conditions and the qualifications of those living there (mainly women and young people), as well as to enhance competitiveness and protect natural resources. For the period 2001-2006, the total amount of funds attributed to the programme will be EUR 24 million, including a Community contribution of EUR 10.6 million and 2.7 million from the private sector.
