Brussels, 06/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - Albert Bore has been elected as President of the Committee of the Regions. The Committee's 222 new members met on 6 February for the first time in their four-year term. Albert Bore, who is a British member of the Party of European Socialists Group and Mayor of Birmingham, will serve as President for a two-year term. Eduardo Zaplana, EPP Group candidate, was elected Vice-President. Through an arrangement between the groups, he should take over from Albert Bore mid-term, in 2004. Albert Bore, who has been a member of the Committee since its creation in 1994, has been leader of the Socialist Group since 1998.
