06/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Italian and French delegations in the Socialist Group in the European Parliament met in Strasbourg ("all of them", says a press release by Democratici di sinistra), at a working lunch in which, after two addresses by Pasqualina Napoletano and Pervenche Beres, they broached institutional reforms, the political prospects of the Left in the European elections of 2004, "the PES alliance policy in relation to other parliamentary groups". Other subjects discussed: the Group's situation following the recent renewal of Parliament's bodies, affair that led to tensions between the French and Italian components when one of the former, Michel Rocard deprived of the chair of the Social affairs Committee, had begun by demanding the chair of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, exercised by the DS member Giorgio Napolitano (but finally, Rocard had agreed to accept the chair of the Culture Committee, thereby avoiding greater tensions within the group).
