Brussels, 01/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - The new president of the European Parliament, Pat Cox, is to present the priorities of his mandate next Wednesday during a programming speech to be followed by an exchange of views with MEPs. The Council will then make a declaration on the measures decided on 27 September last by the EU to combat terrorism. On Monday, the Commission will issue a statement on the heavy vehicles blocked in Luxembourg, and, on Tuesday, Commissioner Monti will present the communication that the Commission is to adopt the same day on vertical agreements and concerted practices in the automobile industry. Also on Tuesday, Javier Solana will discuss in plenary not only the Middle East (the EP is expected to question him mainly on the damage inflicted by Israeli forces on EU-funded projects), but also developments in Afghanistan and in the Balkans. Urgent issues dealt with on Thursday afternoon will, in addition to traditional themes regarding the defence of human rights, include terrorist attacks in India (mainly against the parliament), humanitarian aid in Goma and reopening of the Mont Blanc tunnel.
