Brussels, 01/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Parliament will vote on the setting up of a joint enterprise to manage the launch of the Galileo satellite positioning and navigation project. The Glante Report (German, Social-Democrat), adopted by the Industry Committee on 8 January, urges Parliament to vote in favour of the creation of this joint enterprise, but against participation of the private sector, so as to avoid "conflicts of interests" (see EUROPE of 9 January, p.10). The report proposes that companies that participate in the funding of Galileo be associated in the enterprise through a "promotion company". "The task of this company would consist in guaranteeing regular and institutionalised exchanges between the private sector and the joint enterprise, to promote the Galileo programme among users and the public at large and possibly carry out tasks defined by the joint enterprise", according to an amendment proposed by the Industry Committee.
