01/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - In Las Palmas on 4 February, the Spanish Presidency is organising a meeting on the future of ultra-peripheral regions between the Presidents of the regions in question (the Canaries, Azores, Madeira, Guyana, Martinique, Guadeloupe and La Réunion), the Spanish public administration minister, European Commissioner Michel Barnier, the Spanish and Portuguese European Ministers, Ramon de Miguel an Teresa de Moura and the French minister for overseas territories, Christian Paul. The meeting aims to highlight the specific situation of ultra-peripheral regions in current policy and also against the backdrop of the cohesion policy of the future, according to Spanish sources.
