Brussels, 23/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy has met the Israeli Foreign Minister in Strasbourg. Javier Solana did not raise the question of Israel destroying Palestinian infrastructure (see separate article) but took advantage of Shimon Peres' visit to the Council of Europe to have direct dialogue on a very serious situation, commented Mr Solana's spokesperson. Javier Solana told Mr Peres that the EU would continue to pull out the stops to support the peace process. Mr Peres addressed the Parliamentary Assembly at some length, calling on the deputies to help Palestinians extricate themselves from their own mistakes and put an end to terror, and saying that Israel was not fighting the Palestinians, but terrorism.
