"ICTs" crucial for business logistics, according to Commission survey

Brussels, 23/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) revolutionise business-to business (B2B) relations. Although less apparent in business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions, their impact on enterprises is substantial. This is the conclusion of a survey published by the European Commission on Wednesday on their impact on the logistics of business across Europe. Among the of the most tangible effects of ICTs on B2B relations, the survey, based on answers provided between February and September 2001 on a sample of 180 businesses, cites lower stocks, faster delivery times, changes in job profiles and a shift from competition to co-operation. For large businesses, most ITC headaches are to do with managing large and complex networks and telematic systems. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) master small, more flexible electronic platforms and applications relatively easily, but sometimes lack appropriate finance to go digital in logistics.
