Germany hauled before Court of Justice

Brussels, 17/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission decided to haul Germany before the Court of Justice for failure to communicate the necessary measures to transpose the directive relating to pressure equipment into national law (vessels, piping, valves, extinguishers and pressure cookers to petrochemical processing plant and non-nuclear power stations, etc.). Member States should have transposed this directive by 29 May 1999. It establishes a Community regulatory framework concerning risks due to pressure, sets requirements to be met by these products, particularly with regard to safety and provides for a series of procedures for checking a compliance with these requirements. Products that have been subjected to an assessment procedure. and meet the requirements of the directive bear the CE marking.
