Go-ahead for 10 Urban II programmes for Italy

Brussels, 17/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission approved ten Urban II urban development programmes for Italy for the period 2000-2006, which will receive total EU funding of EUR 121.3 million. The programmes will focus on promoting modern technology, improving the economic fabric, promoting the inclusion of disadvantaged groups in the labour market and urban development.

The ten cities that are covered by the programmes are Carrara (EU contribution of EUR 8.8 million out of total funding of EUR 27.1 million); Caserta (EU contribution of EUR 15 million out of total funding of EUR 29.2 million), Crotone (EU contribution of EUR 15 million out of total funding of EUR 25 million), Genoa (EU contribution of EUR 1 million out of total funding of EUR 29.5 million to renovate the historical centre), Milan (EU contribution of EUR 10.7 million out of total funding of EUR 27 million for the city's North-Western quarters), Misterbianco (EU contribution of EUR 15 million out of total funding of EUR 25 million), Mola di Bari (EU contribution of EUR 8.6 million out of total funding of EUR 21.8 million), Pescara (EU contribution of EUR 4.9 million out of total funding of EUR 12.2 million), Taranto (EU contribution of EUR 16.6 million out of total funding of EUR 31.7 million over 7 years) and Turin (EU contribution of EUR 10.7 million out of total funding of EUR 28.4 million for the southern quarters of the city, Mirafiori Nord).
