Strasbourg, 17/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - At the European emergency debate in Strasbourg, the European paliament adopted a resolution on the situation in Nepal. It has called for a complete halt to the violence so that the Nepalese people, who have experienced worsening levels of poverty for decades, are not deprived of their means to earn a living, especially from the tourist industry. The EP has called on the Nepalese government and Parliament to fight corruption and introduce profound economic and structural reforms which will leas to balanced and sustained development. The EU has been called to provide additional economic aid if progress is achieved in obtaining a negotiated peace settlement.
