Agreement on cross-border payments is welcomed by EP and Commission as a victory for consumers and as an interference with market rules, by banks

Brussels, 29/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - The political agreement on "cross-border payments" that arose on Monday in the Internal Market Council (see EUROPE of 26/27 November, p.8), was welcomed by the MEPs, the Commission and consumer organisations. As expected, the representatives from the banks, on the other hand, "regret this decision" that sets prices for banking services, while banks do not yet have a reliable international banking network for cross-border payments.
