UN and EU call on international community to mobilise funds in 2002 for vulnerable populations in the African Great Lakes region and south-eastern Europe

Brussels, 29/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a joint effort to mobilise humanitarian aid funding, the European Commission and the Belgian EU Council Presidency joined forces with the United Nations agencies to urge the international community to provide, in 2002, US$2.5 billion to the 33 million persons who are victims of humanitarian crises in the world (see EUROPE of 26 and 27 November, p.12).
