16/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the EP approved by 242 votes to 169 and 35 abstentions the resolution by Swedish Green member Inger Schörling on the European Commission's communication on a strategy for future policy in the field of chemical substances. According to Ms Schörling, after this vote (Ed.: which does not have binding value), the Commission should considerably strengthen its legislative proposals compared to its communication. The EPP-ED group was not able to approve the resolution, despite the adoption of its amendment calling for the proposed recording and evaluation procedures to apply only to substances "from one tonne per year". EUROPE will come back to this in greater detail.
