ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) retailing

Officially declared candidate for some time now, GALERIES LAFAYETTE has announced that it was in the final stages of negotiations with the British retailer MARKS & SPENCER to take over the eighteen shops in France. The bid, for an undisclosed amount, provides for retaining the 1,500 staff concerned. The four shops in Belgium have had no luck in finding a taker and will thus be closed. See EI of 31 March.
