France took over from Spain's in 2000 as main beneficiary of EU's budget spending - Sweden was main net contributor

Brussels, 25/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - The latest report on the breakdown of the EU's operating expenses by Member State, endorsed by the European Commission on Tuesday, shows that France was the biggest beneficiary of the Community budget in 2000 (16.7% of total spending) and has therefore taken the place traditionally held by Spain.
