20/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - The President of the EU Council, Guy Verhofstadt, said on Thursday that he would try to ensure that candidate countries were associated with the common position on the fallout from last Tuesday's attacks in the US to be defined on Friday evening at the EU Summit. Mr Verhofstadt said that the EU's role in areas of conflict would be added to the other issues to be tackled at the Summit. He also said that the European economy rested on solid foundations.
