Eurocadres insists on European-wide recognition of qualifications and diplomas

Brussels, 17/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - "The EU cannot claim to want a Europe of innovation and knowledge without taking significant measures to build a Community area for the recognition of qualifications and diplomas. We expect the Laeken Summit to give not only confirmation of the guidelines announced earlier but also of effective measures along these lines": such is the message given by Michel Rousselo, President of the European executive council (Eurocadres, organisation affiliated to the European Trade Union Confederation) to Laurette Onkelinx, President of the EU Social Affairs Council, during their meeting last week in Brussels.

During this meeting, Eurocadres mainly called for: 1) future guidelines for employment to take the developments in the employment situation and the needs relating to qualifications and sectors more into account; 2) Europe to establish coherent mutual recognition for diploma and qualifications; 3) the "skills and mobility" Task Force, to meet during this half year, to reach conclusions allowing greater transparency and coherence; and 4) a European platform to be established involving the various partners interested in such questions.
