Brussels, 13/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The elected members of the Spanish Partido Popular, Inigo Mendez de Vigo, and of the German Social Democrat Party, Jo Leinen, will together draft the second report by the European Parliament on the Treaty of Nice (see EUROPE of 1 June, pages 3 to 4, on the first report, drafted by Inigo Mendez de Vigo and Portuguese Socialist José Seguro). The Parliament hopes to adopt, in time, before the summit of Laeken, its position on the composition and the method of the future Convention that is expected to prepare the next Intergovernmental Conference for revision of the EU Treaty, Mr Leinen said in a press release. The next Treaty should have the quality and the nature of a "constitutional treaty", Mr Leinen stressed.
