Second roundtable between EU and Indian civil society

Brussels, 13/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The second roundtable of representatives of organised civil society from the European Union and India will take place on 16 and 17 July in Brussels, under the joint Presidency of Goke Frerichs, President of the Economic and Social Committee and by Narendra Nath Vohra, Director of the India International Centre in New Delhi. The talks mainly cover the role of civil society in the face of globalisation and in favour of sustainable development, the development of good relations between the representatives from civil society from the EU and India. This meeting should lead to recommendations for the EU-India summit, which will soon take place in New Delhi.

The meeting will become a tradition and will take place regularly. The aim is to develop the dialogue between civil society from India and the EU, noted Thomas Jansen, Chef de Cabinet for the Committee President by recalling that this concerns here, in fact, an initiative from Commissioner Patten, who strongly hopes to push forward such a dialogue which, to be of value, must be structured and include continuos ties.
