France's LA POSTE and its Spanish counterpart CORREOS Y TELEGRAFOS (turnover of 1.3 bn euro in 2000) have signed a strategic alliance for express parcels. To that effect, the two groups have created a joint-venture called CHRONOEXPRESS which intends taking a 12% to 15% share of the Spanish market by 2004. In addition, the French operator and the computer services company STERIA have announced the creation of a joint-venture which will operate in the electronic trade, directories and teleprocedures sector. The new entity will pool the activities of SOMEPOST INFORMATIQUE (LA POSTE subsidiary) and STERIA in this sector. SOFIPOST, subsidiary holding company of LA POSTE will have a 51% stake in the new entity and STERIA 49%.
