Luxembourg, 08/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - In order to allow the citizen to understand the pressures placed by man on the environment and on political decision-makers to develop a suitable environmental strategy for the EU, Eurostat published, on 7 June, the second edition of the "Environmental Pressure Indicators for the EU". Only available in English, this report present data available for 48 indicators among which are the use of energy, the production of industrial waste, their recycling and reuse, consumption of pesticides in agriculture, emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants in the atmosphere and the marine environment. The report describes the trends seen and specifies, as much as possible, the distribution of pressures placed on the environment by various sectors of the economy.
