Brussels, 08/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - During the plenary session at the end of May, the European Economic and Social Committee (ESC) unanimously adopted an information report, presented by Ramon Baeza Sanjuan (workers group, Spain) and entitled "Coping with globalisation - the only option for the most vulnerable". In this report, the Committee proposes concrete measures to remedy the negative effects of globalisation, democratise the international society (notably through greater involvement of social partners), promote regional integration, lighten the debt of the developing countries, provide the globalisation process with a social and environmental dimension, greater participation by the consumers and multinationals, regulated investments, capital flows and also immigration, and promote the transfer of technologies and training. By presenting his report, Mr Baeza Sanjuan considered globalisation as an unavoidable historic fact, while underlining the need to master it.
This report will act as the basis of the works by an international conference with the same title and which will take place on 5 and 6 July in The Hague, with the participation of all the economic and social council in the world, indicated Thomas Jansen, Chef de Cabinet of the Committee President.
