Brussels, 22/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The next meeting of Agora, scientific and academic network on the future and Constitution of Europe, set up last March (see EUROPE of 28 March, p.6) will be held in Rome on 23 and 24 May. You may recall that Agora has a Steering Committee made up of representatives of the International European Movement (Pier Virgilio Dastoli and Thomas Jansen), TEPSA, Constitution Watch, the European Constitutional Law Network and the European University Institute of Florence. The Steering Committee will meet in July to discuss Agora's structures and topics for which different research centres will form working groups.
On 23 May (fifteenth anniversary of the death of Altiero Spinelli, author of the "Draft Treaty on the European Union", approved by the European Parliament on 14 February 1984), work on the "Constituent powers within the European Union" will be introduced by the chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Giorgio Napolitano, Teresa Freixes Sanjuan, chair of the European Law Institute of Barcelona University, Thomas Jansen and Olivier Duhamel, French member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament.
On 24 May, work will be on a European Constitution: in the morning, the "strategy" to follow will be introduced by Jean-Victor Louis, and in the afternoon, the "content" will be examined by, among others, Ulrike Guerot (of Constitution Watch, organization made up by ISPE, IFRI and Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Auswartige Politik) and Robert Toulemon (European Movement-France and AFEUR), and the President of the International European Movement Jose Maria Gil-Robles will draw the conclusions.
