Brussels, 22/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Before the debate within the College of Commissioners, broad agreement was reached on Tuesday between their Chefs de Cabinet for the Commission to adopt a proposed communication on Wednesday on tax policy, tabled by Frits Bolkestein (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.7). Pascal Lamy, retains certain doubts, notably on the concept of "tax competition" defended by Mr. Bolkestein, that Lamy regards as "not very compatible with the spirit of Community integration, or with the European social model". The Chefs de Cabinet suggest that the College focus its discussion on the "company tax" aspect, the state of work on the tax package and debates in the framework of the OECD.
