22/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Philippe Busquin attended on Monday the presentation of the results of several EU-funded medical research projects at Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris. The projects looked into the use of umbilical cord blood for treating children with leukaemia; a comparative study of different care systems for premature babies; an assessment of the performance of intensive care units; and brain formation in the fœtus. EU funding for medical research (EUR 1.5 billion from 1998 to 2002) has more than doubled in the past decade.
