ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) banks

The American financial group CITIGROUP took control of GRUPO FINANCIERO BANAMEX-ACCIVAL (BANACCI), one of the largest financial groups in the country, for USD 12.5 billion, half paid in cash and the other half in shares. BANAMEX earned a profit of USD 927 million in 2000 and has around 1,300 branches.
