The Spanish savings bank CAIXA had entered the agri-food business with the acquisition of a 30% stake in the pastry, bread and cake company PANRICO (predicted turnover of 90 billion pesetas in 2001; 17 plants, 6,500 employees) for 21 billion pesetas.
