Brussels, 23/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The first European parliamentary meetings on corporate governance, organised by the MEP Ieke van den Burg (Dutch, Socialist) will take place on 24 April at the seat of the European Economic and Social Committee (ESC), with as theme "Social responsibility and corporate governance". The Commissioner responsible for the Internal Market and Taxation Frits Bolkestein will open the works, co-chaired by Ieke van den Burg and the Committee Chairman Goke Frerichs. Two roundtables will cover the following themes: 1) business facing the challenges of social responsibility and governance; 2) what prospects for the EU in terms of social responsibility and corporate governance?
