23/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - "We must combat piracy and forgery, both through international collaboration and work to change attitudes", said Swedish Justice and Trade Ministers Thomas Bodström and Leif Pagrotsky at the opening on Monday, in Stockholm, of a conference devoted to this subject. The aim of the conference is to "make a survey of the extent of these activities and find effective measures for fighting them". A 1998 survey reports that "piracy is estimated to account for 5-7% of total world trade, and results in the loss of something like 100,000 jobs every year in the EU alone. (…) And everything points to a growth in the problem", state the ministers.
