SAC considers Fischler's proposals on forage plants insufficient to meet protein deficit

Brussels, 29/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Special Agriculture Committee (SAC), which met on Monday, gave a favourable welcome to the broad lines of the proposal of regulation aimed at authorising forage crops on fallow land, solely in farms converted to "organic" farming. Some member States (including France, Germany and Italy), however, felt that this was a "symbolic" solution to the problem of protein deficit in animal feed.
