Loyola de Palacio proposes Committee should develop opinions upstream of Commission opinions

Brussels, 08/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - The ESC should "come in early with its opinions on crucial topics on which the Commission would later issue its proposal. More generally, the Commission could ask the Committee to focus its work on issues of greatest relevance". Such was the suggestion made by Loyola de Palacio, European Commission Vice-President, during the plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee on 28 February in Brussels.
