Iran would like visit by Socialist Group to take place at a later date

Brussels, 06/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Brussels states in a press release that the visit a delegation of the Socialist Group of the European Parliament was to make to Teheran should be postponed, "despite efforts made", for "technical reasons" (see EUROPE of 2 March, p.4, on the subject of the declarations by the president of the Socialist Group, Enrique Baron, who regretted that certain requests by MEPs, above all concerning contacts with the civil society, had not been met). The services in charge in Iran had organised "high level meetings" but the organisation of several meetings was not finalised due to agenda limitations or for technical reasons, said the Embassy. It affirms its hope that the visit will take place at a later date, given the determination of both parties to develop indepth relations and to institutionalise parliamentary cooperation.
