Dialogue on human rights on Friday and Saturday in Stockholm

Stockholm, 22/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The new session of the bi-annual EU/China dialogue meeting on human rights is being held on 22 and 23 February in Stockholm. The agenda of the meeting includes China's cooperation with the UN in the areas of human rights, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, the death penalty and torture, states a press release from the Swedish EU Council Presidency. The Chinese delegation is led by Li Baodong, and the EU delegation by Thomas Hammarberg, both responsible for human rights at their respective Foreign Ministries. (See EUROPE of 7 October 2000, p.6, on the subject of the last session of the dialogue on human rights, that was held in Beijing with mitigated results, and which also covered the multi-party system, arbitrary detention, and attacks on State security, as well as the situation in Tibet).
