Monday, open debate on conflict prevention - Follow-up of Nice European Council (notably, transition to permanent ESDP bodies), Balkans (including Balkan syndrome) and peace in Middle East - Nice Treaty should be signed before end of February

Brussels, 18/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The General Affairs Council, which will take place on 22 January in Brussels under the Presidency of Anna Lindh will start, as with each new EU Council Presidency, with an open debate on the six month programme: the Swedish Presidency hopes to place emphasis on one of its priorities, conflict prevention (see below).
