Portuguese aid to pig sector are unlawful

Strasbourg, 04/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has taken a final negative decision regarding aid measures adopted by Portugal early 1999 in favour of the pigmeat sector. Portugal has two months for recovering this aid from beneficiaries.

Following the crisis on the market, Portugal had decided in January 1999 to establish, in favour of pig producers: 1) a moratorium on the reimbursement of short term credits at interest rate subsidies; and 2) short term aid in the form of...
