For a European defence of farm seeds

Paris, 06/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - Six farming organisation (Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and the Netherlands) from the European Union decided to coordinate their actions to defend farm seeds. They have set as objective:

1. Abolition of the subordination of an European aid payments to certified seed. Obligatory for hard wheat, this measure is being prepared for flax. The farming organisation feel that it is only of interest for the seed lobby that forms a capture market in this way;

2. Repeal of the Article from Regulation of 1994 on the pant extracts that authorises the buyer to receive a subsidy for the multiplication of these seeds at the farm. Despite strong resistance and significant implementation difficulties, this subsidy starts to be made in certain member States such as Germany and the Netherlands.

These decision follow the seminar on farm seed, organised last December during which the farming organisations from seven European countries demanded, on the initiative of the African countries, that all the planet's genetic resources are given to the "human heritage", so as to ban all private alienation.
