Chris Patten's visit continues

Jerusalem, 05/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for External Relations is continuing his visit to the Middle East countries, with three goals in mind: a) to take the message of EU support for the peace process between Israel and the Arab countries (even if, on this subject, there are no proposals to be made or initiatives to be taken, as it is not his role); b) make implementation progress or, as the case may be, the negotiation of agreements with the countries of the region); c) sign contracts with different countries for the financing of economic, social and other projects.

The first financing operations for Jordan were announced in Brussels (see following article). On Wednesday, Mr Patten was in Israel, on Thursday he will be in Syria and on Friday in Lebanon, the last stage of the tour intended to strengthen relations between the EU and the countries of the region.
