08/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - A delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is going to Moscow on 9 and 10 March for talks with the Russian authorities on developments in the situation in Chechnya. These talks will be followed by a fact-finding mission in the North Caucasus on 11 and 12 March. This mission should enable the parliamentarians to determine to what extent the Russian authorities have followed the demands the Assembly made in January (see EUROPE of 29 January, p.6) regarding the end to military operations and the respect of human rights. A report will be made to plenary that, at its session from 3 to 7 April, has to see whether the issue of Russia's participation in the work of the Assembly needs reviewing.
