Brussels, 08/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Arab Ambassadors accredited in Brussels held a lunchtime meeting on Wednesday with Javier Solana, High Representative for CFSP. During this first contact, they discussed the Middle East peace process and prospects for relaunch of the Euro-Arab dialogue, that has been suspended since 1986. Mr Solana said he hoped an informal dialogue could be engaged in with the Arab League before specific measures for resumption of dialogue were considered, particularly because the Euro-Mediterranean process and dialogue with the Gulf countries have in practice replaced Euro-Arab dialogue.
Regarding the normalisation of EU/Libya relations, Mr Solana pointed out that a decision in principle has already been taken and that new developments are expected shortly.
