08/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission interrupted the investigation into the acquisition of the British group United Biscuits by the North American Nabisco, the notice of the planned merger presented last 21 February having been withdrawn by the parties to take into account the entry of Danone into the operation. Rivals until then, Nabisco and Danone announced at the end of February that they where joining their offers for the acquisition of United Biscuits, through their respective intermediaries: Burlington for Nabisco and Finalrealm for Danone and its allies. The acquisition, which should end in the coming weeks is valued at EUR 2 billion. It should be studied by the British competition commission and by the European Commission.
