Brussels, 25/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - Over 50 MEPS from across the political spectrum inaugurated this week the European Internet Foundation, which aims to help mobilise strong political leadership for the network society revolution gathering pace across Europe. It is financed by its associate members and some of Europe's leading e-companies. Independent of the European Commission but receiving its strong support, it is composed of MEPs and representatives of private companies. According to a press release from the Foundation, it plans to "identify emerging policy priorities and help frame policy options, but will not take positions on specific issues". It also plans to benefit from relations with the Transatlantic Policy Network (TPN), which, according to the press release, is a "political bridge for the growing EU/US e-policy debate".
