Brussels, 25/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has approved the granting of humanitarian assistance by the Community's Humanitarian Office (Echo) to Laos, Mozambique and Botswana. Here are the amounts and destinations of the funds:
Laos: EUR 1.4 million channeled through Echo to enable NGOs active on the ground to improve access for food and drinking water, as well as improving the sanitary conditions of displaced villagers in precarious situations.
Mozambique and Botswana: EUR 1 million will serve to fund emergency aid projects for the victims of the floods (provision of equipment for temporary shelter, food distribution, basic healthcare, preventive measures against the risks of epidemics, provision of drinking water, etc.).
