Parliament calls on new Ivory Coast authorities to respect undertakings and organise elections in June 2000

Strasbourg, 21/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - By adopting a joint resolution tabled by four political groups (EPP, PES, ELDR and Greens/EFA) on the situation in the Ivory Coast, the European Parliament, out of principle, condemned the coup of 24 December and called on the transition government to organise free and transparent elections in June of this year.
