26/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 25 June, the Council of the EU renewed—for another 12 months, until 31 July 2027—the economic measures adopted against Russia for the actions it has taken to destabilise Ukraine. This decision follows the European Council meeting held on 18 and 19 June, during which EU leaders agreed to extend the economic sanctions against Russia for a period of 12 months rather than 6 months (see EUROPE 13891/1), and an agreement reached on Wednesday, 24 June, at the level of Member States’ permanent representatives (see EUROPE 13895/40). These economic measures were initially introduced on 31 July 2014 and have been significantly strengthened since February 2022. In addition, Member States’ permanent representatives continued their discussion regarding the 21st sanctions package on Friday (see EUROPE 13884/1). (CG)
