03/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – MEPs on the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) approved, by roll-call vote, the Interinstitutional Agreement reached on 12 May between the European Parliament and the EU Council on the protection of adults in need of support and safeguards in decision-making in cross-border situations (see EUROPE 13868/16). The text should make it easier, in cross-border cases, to recognise measures concerning in particular the place of residence, medical care or the management of assets. It will also enable adults to organise their protection in advance and ensure their choices are respected. Measures adopted in one Member State will be recognised in another without any additional procedures. In addition, the regulation creates a European certificate of support and representation, valid throughout the European Union, in order to prove the powers of a person entrusted with assisting or representing an adult.
