03/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – As expected, the permanent representatives of the Member States to the EU approved on Wednesday 3 June, without discussion, the authorisation given to the Commission to formalise with the United States the EU’s participation in the US semiconductor initiative ‘Pax Silica’ (see EUROPE 13878/3). The EU Council will formally adopt this green light on 8 June. ‘Pax Silica’ already brings together Australia, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. ‘Pax Silica’ is an initiative launched by the United States at the end of 2025 to secure global supply chains for artificial intelligence semiconductors, critical raw materials and advanced technologies. It aims to reduce dependence on single sources by building a secure supply chain for silicon – from the extraction and processing of raw materials to semiconductor design, AI generation and infrastructure such as data centres – and by fostering a reliable network of allies.
