The European Union is currently conducting its fourth ‘Live Exercise’ (LIVEX26), taking place from 24 May to 18 June in Zaragoza, Spain, the European External Action Service announced on Wednesday 3 June. This exercise aims to test and improve EU capacity to respond rapidly to crises through its Rapid Deployment Capacity.
It is taking place under the command of the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC). A total of 2,500 soldiers from 13 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, Romania, Portugal, Czech Republic and Sweden) are taking part.
The exercise includes moving troops across Europe to the training site in Zaragoza. The goal of the exercise is to improve interoperability in planning and conducting operations at all levels: at strategic level with the MPCC as the operational headquarters based in Brussels, at operational level with the Force Headquarters, made up of personnel from Eurocorps and deployed in the Zaragoza training area, and at tactical level with the EU Battlegroup (EUBG26), under Spanish command and also deployed in Zaragoza.
