29/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 28 May, the European Union adopted support of €100 million to the Lebanese armed forces under the European Peace Facility, according to a legal act published on 29 May. The assistance measure will finance non-lethal equipment for territorial control, through support for the establishment of Lebanese army’s 5th Land Border Regiment, to be deployed along the north-eastern border with Syria, as well as the creation of a joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability with an operational drone system and a comprehensive training programme. The equipment will also help to strengthen surveillance capacities and the integration of assets into a maritime command and control system, to protect critical military sites through the delivery of counter-drone systems, and to continue the provision of medical equipment to the central medical care system.
